Donald R. Kinder
Donald R. Kinder is the Philip Converse Distinguished University Professor of Political Science and Research Professor at the Center for Political Studies at the University of Michigan.
He previously served as chair of the Department of Political Science at Michigan and as a visiting professor in the Department of Psychology at Stanford University.
Among his books are Neither Liberal nor Conservative: Ideological Innocence in the American Public; News that Matters; Divided by Color: Racial Politics and Democratic Ideals; Us against Them: Ethnocentric Foundations of American Opinion; and The End of Race? Obama, 2008, and Racial Politics in America. His books have received numerous awards, including the Converse Book Award from the American Political Science Association, and the American Association for Public Opinion Research Book Award. News that Matters was also recognized as a New York Times Notable Book.
Kinder previously served as co-principal investigator of the National Election Studies and as a member of the editorial board of the American Political Science Review, and his work has been recognized with a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Warren E. Miller Award from the American Political Science Association, and the Henry Russel Award from the University of Michigan. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences. Kinder holds a B.A. in psychology from Stanford University, and a Ph.D. in social psychology from UCLA.
